Duanwu Festival – Wishing You Peace and Joy Year After Year

Arrives in Midsummer

Duanwu Festival

The character “Duan” signifies a beginning or starting point and refers to the fifth day of a month. In ancient China, months were divided according to the Earthly Branches. The fifth lunar month was known as the Month of Wu, and the fifth day of that month became known as Duanwu.

In the Five Elements system, Wu corresponds to Fire. The Wu hour, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., is typically the hottest time of the day. Throughout the Month of Wu, yang energy is at its peak, bringing intense summer heat along with increased humidity and insect activity.

During this special holiday, some gather with family and friends to enjoy soft, glutinous rice dumplings, while others head out to watch the lively dragon boat races.

As you enjoy the festivities, remember to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the midday sun, and take a break in the shade whenever you can. May you take good care of yourself during this vibrant festival, staying safe, refreshed, and blessed with health and well-being year after year.
